Shuffleboard Table Games

The Most Popular Table Shuffleboard Games

For many years, Shuffleboard Tables were mostly found in bar room settings, where the most popular Table Shuffleboard game was "Knock Off", which is generally played with either two or four people. Two other games, Horse Collar, and Crazy Eights, have increased in popularity, because they can be played by larger groups of people.

In recent years, the huge increase in the sales of Shuffleboard Tables has greatly expanded the number of Table Shuffleboard enthusiasts. The majority of tables are now going into private homes, where it is enjoyed by family members of all ages. A Shuffleboard Table is often the focal point of family gatherings. Horse Collar and Crazy Eights are especially well suited for that environment, because the entire group of family and friends can participate.

As the game continues to grow in popularity, Shuffleboard Tables can increasingly be found in family game centers, hotel game rooms, golf courses, ski resorts and country clubs. The biggest expansion has been into corporate offices, where companies are finding Table Shuffleboard to be a great tool to help increase morale, employee retention, and team building.

Whether in formal tournament play, or informal friendly competition among family members, co-workers and friends, more people than ever are enjoying the Table Shuffleboard, and are captivated by the unique combination of skill, strategy, and a bit of old fashioned luck.

The most commonly played shuffleboard table game that you'll see in professional tournaments is "Knock Off." This is one of the more basic and simple games, but that doesn't mean it's easy! All shuffleboard games require persistence and patience in addition to strategy to improve one's skills and become an accomplished player. Other popular shuffleboard games are "Horse Collar" and "Crazy Eight." Horse Collar is a higher scoring game, requiring the winner to score 51 points as opposed to Knock Off's 15 points (or more rarely, 21). Weights, commonly known as pucks that are in particular positions on the board, such as "hangers" score more points, making it an exciting and especially challenging game. Crazy Eights differs in terms of certain rules that must be followed before a player can score. This involves each player throwing all 4 pucks of one color, and if they all stay on the board, they throw the 4 pucks of the other color, attempting to knock off all 4 original pucks. The remaining pucks are then scored. The number of points required to win is agreed upon prior to the start of the game.

Less commonly played table shuffleboard games include "Tap & Draw" and "Target." Tap & Draw, unlike Knock Off, gives players who are able to play the first puck the greatest advantage. The major difference in scoring is that you can send one of your own pucks farther up the board by tapping it with another pushed puck. Target, as its name suggests, lets you aim and shoot at a particular target, to score between 1 and 4 points. Instead of foul lines, there is a target area for scoring. In each round, only the winner scores.
