2003 NASC™ - General Information

Player Ratings: The 2003 Bowers Ratings will be used for this tournament. If you do not have a rating and would like to play in the Tournament, please contact us as soon as possible, preferably by August 1. Please note that it is very possible that some events will be full by that date, so it is in your best interest to contact us as soon as possible so that we can establish a rating for you. For a copy of the ratings, please visit the Bowers’ web site, www.shuffleboardcorner.com to download a copy.

General Eligibility: Players rated between -.01 to -1.50 must play in the Pro Division; players rated between 0.00 and 1.49 may play in Division I or higher; players rated between 1.50 and 2.49 may play in Division II or higher; Players rated between 2.50 and 5.00 may play in Division III or higher. In the Pro Doubles, -1's may not play together. In Division I Doubles, 0's may not play together.

Event Formats: Pro/Am Draft: best 5 out of 9, double elimination, 12 point games; Three Person Team Events: 2 out of 3, double elimination; all amateur singles & doubles events: 2 out of 3 winners bracket and single 21 point game losers bracket. Pro Singles & Doubles: 2 out of 3 winners and losers bracket. Draw Partners: single game, double elimination. All games are 15 points unless otherwise noted.

Pro/Am Draft Team Event: This example is based on 144 players, which equals 24 six-person teams. The top twenty four rated players would act as team captains and select their fellow team members through a five round draft. The draft order for the first round shall be determined by blind draw. After that the picking order flip flops each round. In other words, the captain that has the first pick in the first round gets the last pick in the second round. By the same token, the captain that picks last in the first round will pick first in the second round and so on. The draft is at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25; followed by the auction, at 5:00 p.m., play begins immediately after the auction. All players must be present by 3:00 p.m. for pre-draft roll call. Any players not present will be dropped. Free entry in this event for the first 50 people who sign up that have never been to this tournament before. Offer expires August 1, 2003.

3 Person Team Events:  Whole number ratings (not the decimal ratings) are being used for these events. In the add to 0 event, there is a maximum of one pro per team, In the add to 5 event, there is a maximum of one "1" rated player. Under the format for this event, all three players for will participate in each game and will play every third frame. This will give everyone who participates an opportunity to play both ends of the table. In other words, player "A" will start the game and shoot their four weights, player "B" will shoot them back, followed by player "C" who will take player "A’s" spot. Player "A" will rotate to the opposite end and take player "B’s" spot, etc.

Room Rates: The Sands Regency is offering a special tournament rate of $29.00, plus tax, for Sunday through Thursday nights and $59.00, plus tax, for Friday and Saturday. In order to be guaranteed this rate, you must make your reservations by October 10. Room reservations made after that date may subject to regular rates. A/B Draw Partners: The top half of the field will draw a partner from the bottom half of the field. There is a possible conflict with the Singles events. Any player who enters this event and is ineligible because they are still in a Singles event will receive a full refund.

Weights: Players may use their own weights, which must have red & blue caps. They may be any brand, so long as the plating is intact and in good condition. The total weight is must be not less than 320 grams, nor more than 340 grams. All weights are subject to inspection by the Tournament Director who may, at his discretion, disallow any weights he deems unacceptable. Weights that are excessively scratched or have or plating that is worn through are examples of unacceptable equipment. Players must start each game/match with a full set of eight weights, four red and four blue. Switching of caps after the flip is not allowed.

Scheduling/Auction times: The auction time for the Pro/Am Draft is 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. The auctions for the 3 Person Team Events are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27. All doubles auctions are scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29. Auctions for all singles events are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30.The auction for the Draw Partners is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1. Please note that these are approximate starting times. The exact times for the individual events will be determined based on the number of players in each event. All players must be present for the auctions for the events they are playing in, failure to do so will result in a $20.00 fine per infraction. Play for each event begins after the auction for that event.

Added money breakdown: The Sands Regency is adding up to $12,500 to the North American Championships. Of that, $6,000 is guaranteed, and is allocated as follows: $2,500 will be used to pay the entry fee for the first 50 people who sign up for the Pro/Am Draft that have never been to this tournament before. Offer expires August 1, 2003. If less than 50 people take advantage of this opportunity, any left over money will be added to the random draw prizes. The rest of the added money will be awarded to randomly drawn winners, who will receive $200 each. Additional added money is based on the number of teams in the Pro/Am Draft: 24-27 teams equals $4,000 of additional added money ($10,000 total). With 28 or more teams in the Pro/Am Draft, there will be $6,500 of additional added money ($12,500 total).

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Registration Fee and Board Fee are non-refundable. If you drop out of an event twenty-four hours or more prior to the event, the cancellation fee of $25 for each event you drop out of. If you drop out of an event less than twenty-four hours prior to the start of that event, you lose your entire entry fee. Refunds will be issued by check and mailed within thirty days after the tournament.

Sands Regency Casino Hotel: The tournament area has a bar and cocktail waitresses, a players only playing area and reserved seating for players. Located within fifty feet of the tournament area are: rest rooms, cocktail lounge, stairs to the casino, and elevators that go to our reserved rooms in the tower. The Hotel also has live entertainment, a health club on the 17th floor that includes a large Jacuzzi with a view of the mountains, a sauna and a massage therapist.
